Researching for clearance of water
in Retezat mountains and Hatzeg county.

Water researches- our inner appointment for the effects exchanging between partners is 1st February:

Romanian students have collected information about the water pollution in Retezat National Park and Hateg area between November 1st and January 1st. They have been talking to the director of Hunedoara Agency for Medium Protection, as well as to specialists from Retezat National Park. They have visited the area, took some samples and analysed them partially in the school lab.
Water is used in industry, for urban needs, in zootechny, for wash…etc…
Brief history
In 1952 –the first chemical standard of water in U.S.A
In 1970-the general microbiological terms are introduced in Romania
In 1984-By STAS-1342 were introduced the standards of drinking
water regarding the chemical composition of water, the
radioactivity, the microbiological and biological characteristics
In 1991 the 1342 th STAS was revised and there are now maximum
values for all the chemical polluants and admissible values in special
cases for exemple floods.
Romania has to find out the ways of food production in accordance with EU standards. In June 2004 were finished the negotiations regarding the environment protection and there were created new laws.
The European Parliament and the European Council consider that”Water is not a commercial produce, it is a patrimony which has to be protected, treated, defended .”
In Romania the water protection was established by the Water Law 107/1996 which contains a lot of rules regarding the water..
The drinking water is chlorided
The water analyses made by the students in the lab found these conclusions:
Chlorides 10,6 mg/l, Calcium 1,1140mg/l, Hardness 2,3 degreeds, Nitrates absent
Analyses to determine the water pollution have this conclusions: Nitrates absent, Ammonia absent, Organic substances 0,8 mg/l, Chlorine 1-0,2mg/l
Havy Metals- from Santamaria Orlea : Pb7,2mg/l, Ni6,9mg/l, Cu 0,499mg/l, Fe 60mg/l, Mn7mg/l, Zn 585mg/l

The Hateg town is situated with others 9 localities from the district in the region with the hyperclorided water and the drinking water has all the accepted parametres with free residual chlorine 0,25 mg/l

The quality of water in the Retezat Mountains

The hydrographic network in the Retezat Mountains is very reach and complex including rivers , brooks, glacial lakes. To study the quality of the water in this region were used animal organisms.Their big or little number in the rivers water presents most exactly the degree of the pollution.
To investigate the quality of water in the Retezat Mountains were collected samples from a lot of rivers like: Stanisoara, Pietrele, Bucura, Gura Apei, Peleaga, Raul Mare, Barbat, Judele etc
In all these rivers were found a lot of animals like : insects, shells, worms, molluscs, fishes, amphibians, etc, which means that the water in National Retezat Park has a high quality.
The same the water from the lakes (Bucura Lake, Zanoaga Lake, Ana Lake, Lia Lake, Florica Lake , etc.)has a very good quality.
There are only some places like Raul Mare river, Gura Apei and Stanisoara river where the quality of the water is not the best because of the sheep and because of the tourists sometimes.
The projects of the 2007 is to make in the Hatzeg county some stations and sewerage networks.

The quality of the air

Air researches-our inner appointment for the effects exchanging between project partners is 15th March:

Twenty kilometres south-east of Hunedoara is HATEG , the gateway to Transylvania's greatest Roman remains and one of the most convenient approaches to the Retezat mountains. In addition to the ruins, you'll find a a bison(buffalo?) reservation 3km north, and a number of interesting Romanesque churches in the area immediately around Hateg, all of them reasonably well served by local buses from the center. Hateg is a simple town with 9770 inhabitants on 23 km2. In this area annualy come 10.000 Romanian and foreign tourists. The inhabitants work in the factories in town.
In this region the degree of pollution is not very high there is only dust because of the road traffic.
Comparing with other towns the values of the dust aren`t very high like you can see in this table and in this graphic.

Localit. Suma con.
Deva 6865010
Huned. 1594660
Petrosani 12787500
Brad 4933500
Calan 3612600
Hateg 481900
Orastie 536700
Baru Mare 4729800
Chiscad. 19700400

In conclusion in the Hatezeg county and in the Retezat Mountains there is a reservation where we can breath pure air…

Waste management researches

Waste management researches- our inner appointment for the effects
exchanging between project partners is 15th Aprilie

After visiting the Hatzeg county and the Retezat Mountains the teachers and the students from our highschool had some conclusions:
The negative effects of tourism are the following:
• waste accumulation (cans, glasses, plastic etc.); annually in central area about 10000 tourists are camping, each of them letting behind a kilogram of waste, consequently 10 tones of waste/year, which are very hard to evacuate;
• camping in other areas than the permitted ones leads to the impossibility of tourists supervision regarding the dwarf pine cutting for firewood, damaging the soil superficial strata, due to the digging of the ditches for water drainage surrounding the tents and spreading waste all over the massif.
The legislative problem related to the touristic problem is that although the restrictions are mentioned in the Park’s regulation, the sanctions are not specified, respective the level of the penalties for the legal provisions infringements concerning the protection, conservation, management and guard of the Retezat National Park.

The teachers and students made also a questionnaire and asked 100 persons from Hatzeg region.

Yes No I don`t know
The majority of the waters are too diry for swiming 5 10 85
The music too loud should be forbidden in public 16 35 51
The acid rain doesn`t effect us 10 9 81
Smoking in public should be forbidden 7 10 83
Everyone is responsable in a way for the pollution 84 11 5
The agresive advertising may destroy the environment 63 20 17
It is easier to throw the waste in the basket than sort it 15 13 72
The cars cause to the environment more than anything else 5 2 93

An another important analyse made by the students was the determination of the soil Ph which is very important in apreciation of the soil fertility.
In general the soils`ph has the values between 3-8.These values can be modified in a chemical way with nitrate or phosphorus directely administrated or by the rain or under the action of the residual waters.
In the Hatzeg region by taking 10 samples of the soil from different places we determinated the soil`s ph in the lab.
The determination was made with the indicator paper.
The values of the soil ph are:
6,0-Colt 1
8,5-Colt 2
5,5-Sampetru 1
5,5- Sampetru 2
6,0-Rau de Mori 1
8,5-Rau de Mori 2
6,5-Rau de Mori 3
5,5-Hateg
6,5-Santamarie Orlea
6,5-Sarmizegetusa

In conclusion the ph`s values are between 5,5-8,5 which means that soil is weak acid , weak basic.
